Juan Miguel San Miguel, Cacesa IT Director: “The application of Airfreight is a solid and reliable alternative for the management of electronic correspondence within airline companies. It has allowed migrating information quickly and reliably as well as simplifying our operations and reducing our costs.”
The GTD group of companies, leader in ICT Port Software, expands its business in the airport sector following the agreement with the subsidiary of Iberia Group.
The company plans to manage up to 80% of its air cargo shipments in Spain in three years thanks to the expansion of Airfreight.
Portel (GTD Group) and Cacesa, air cargo subsidiary of Grupo Iberia, have signed an agreement in order to process electronic correspondence through Air Freight. This system eliminates paper in processing documents and minimizes errors through a Single Window system. It speeds up the exchange of information between the players involved in the process.
This is a further step in the direction of the objectives set by E-freight, a project that was promoted in 2006 by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to promote digitalization in the sector with paperless correspondence, which also allows improving security and minimizing time spent on loading. Specifically, the solution allows carrying out the processing of e-AWB as defined by IATA in addition to offering added value functions in the exchange of information among forwarders, carriers and handling agents.
Thanks to the signed agreement, Portel consolidates its presence in the airport sector and it currently controls more than 12% of e-freight shipments in the Spanish market. It should be highlighted that Cacesa manages practically all the goods transported by the IAG Group in Spain and Latin America, in addition to providing services to other International Airlines.
“The application of Airfreight in Cacesa is a strategic move for Portel, as it allows the growth of Portel in the transport market. It already manages up to 12% of all electronic shipments related to national air cargo”, said by Jorge Torrent, CEO of the company.
“Airfreight is a solid and reliable alternative for the management of electronic shipments in the Airline industry. It has allowed fast and comfortable migration, with an increase in simplicity and a reduction in costs”, pointed out by Juan Miguel San Miguel.
This is only the initial step of Portel’s plan for the implementation of Airfreight. The company plans to incorporate this software in main Spanish Airports with the objective of managing 80% of the country’s electronic Air Cargo transmissions in the next three years.
“We are optimistic about the international deployment of Airfreight, as it is a unique proposal in its field and adaptable to the needs of any customer”, mentioned by Torrent.
Airfreight represents a great saving for its users
Airfreight has been designed as a Single Electronic Window that optimizes, aggregates and automates the processes related to air traffic of goods. In addition, it allows real-time traceability of shipments and improves security without the need for investing additional resources.
The product has been developed in the last three years thanks to the pilot test that Portel carried out with Aduanas Pujol Rubio (APR) and WFS Forwarders in collaboration with the Chamber of Commerce of Barcelona, the Generalitat and the support of the International Association of Air Transport (IATA).
During the test period, the software has shown that, at full capacity, it can reduce the average cost of shipping by up to 40%, and up to 44% less in processing time for every shipment and up to 90% less in paper and consumables.
